Life journey of a dog

Alert! An Intruder!

A few days ago the dogs had a very up-close and personal encounter with an Intruder.

Fortunately in all the years we’ve lived in this house, the encounter with the meter-reader was the first, and hopefully the last. Whatever he did, the dogs kept a respectful distance after the initial face-to-face, and he quickly moved on to the next house, before I even got a look at him. Having 3 very loud vizslas surrounding him must have made a big impression on him.

At least, he was an intruder in their eyes, and frankly, they were all just doing their jobs, canine and meter-reader. I would certainly want my dogs to raise a royal ruckus when someone traipses across my backyard, but it would be nice if they could first sniff out who qualified as worthy of barking at. Halloween trick-or-treaters? No. Sneaky thief? Yes. Our charity coming by to pick up the old clothes and magazines on our front porch? No.

Door-to-door canvassers? No, well maybe. Sniff out what they want: They want to sell me lawn care service? No thanks, our lawn is gloriously chemical-free and it shows. The local high school football team wants to sell coupon cards? Sure, I’ll buy.

To the meter-reader out there, sorry. You were just doing your job.
